These custard food shots were just some fun side shots from a photo shoot Kaia and I did together. At the end of my four years at Judson I had managed to not go on any friend photo shoots with my photographer friend Kaia Calhoun, so I asked her if we could do a creative shoot with props and all sorts of crazy outfits. This didn’t work out since we had one day and I only had my packed clothing, but it was still a fun chance to get some pictures of each other and capture our awesome friendship. These photographs were taken at Julie Ann’s Frozen Custard in Geneva IL. One more local sweet spot for you to enjoy!
As a native Austinite, I declare that this restaurant does a beautiful job at combining flavors within the confines of mexican cuisine. Cooper and I were anxious to get outside to Slackline in the park today, but needed to eat brunch first. When we walked in we were seated right away, however the waiter indicated we were lucky and that the dinner service was fully reserved for the night. The clean and simple decor and architecture of the building directly reflected the display of the food. The colors and compositions of the tapas plating was pristine, which meant that the fabulous flavors were to follow. A Toda Madre has many meals with assortments of fish and steak, but we ordered only vegetarian dishes. All meals smelled fabulous and interacted with various taste buds in our mouths. I recommend this well designed restaurant to anyone, even picky eaters.
Van’s Frozen Custard is located in East Dundee IL. Ironically enough it’s right across the street from a Dairy Queen, but low and behold this place seems to be doing well. For a Saturday afternoon the diner was packed full of families who were emerging from their homes to enjoy the nice weather. During this visit Cooper and I were able to try their cheeseburgers. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with swiss cheese, tomatos, lettuce, and honey mustard. Unfortunately the patty was not very flavorful, but for a burger the ingredients seemed fresh and were not greasy. However, the price of the burger did not match the quality of flavor. It was no better than one made at home on the grill. On a separate occasion, we were able to try the custard and it was very delicious. The flavor combinations were unique and worth the slightly higher prices.
